In the Renaissance, the glassmaking knowledge of the Masters living on the island of Murano, Italy was one of the most heavily guarded secrets in the Western World. The Masters lived their entire lives without ever leaving the island for fear of their secrets escaping with them. Eventually the knowledge did escape and spread, however, and thus was born the beginnings of the modern glass industry!
This 12" square mirror features a monochrome palette of glass scraps and other glass objects in a 3" border. Flashes of color from Iridized, Metallic, and Dichroic glasses bring an extra bit of sparkle into this mirror! Among the many glass makers represented are Spectrum, Bullseye, Uroboros, Float Fire, Glue Chip, Wissmach, Youghiogheny, Kokomo, Van Gogh, and even some pieces reclaimed from vintage sources! Most special of all, this mirror features two rare nuggets made from genuine Murano millefiori rod slices - only of a "grande" size! They are the tri-color "star" and black & white "flower" nuggets found in the top and bottom corners of the mirror. I have a limited supply of these large millefiori slice nuggets, so pieces like this won't be around forever!
The legacy of the Masters of Murano lives on in this unique piece of art!
